UMD program shows high schoolers how engineers create

UMD professor Richard Lindeke looked something like a mad scientist as he clutched a control box, linked by a fat black cable to a computer control center with blinking lights and digital displays.
Another tangle of cables linked the computers to a conglomeration of drill presses, motor-driven arms, grips and photoelectric sensors.
“Robotics is all about taking those kinds of jobs that aren’t really human-friendly and automating them,” said Lindeke, as two dozen Grand Rapids High School students looked on.
